What Is The Difference Between Resin Bound & Resin Bonded?

When it comes to choosing what resin system to apply to your gravel driveway or pavement, you have two choices.

The porous option: Resin bound system

The non-porous option: Resin bonded system

Depending on the needs of your project you may decide on either system. We’ve highlighted the differing qualities of each system, including how it operates, to help make your decision a little easier.

Resin Bound

When applying Resin Bound the aggregate is mixed with the resin to create a porous gravel mix. Depending on the desired outcome we can alter the consistency of the gravel. It is then applied to the designated surface area which is trowelled to create an even and attractive finish, with no loose stones. The way in which the aggregate is mixed with the resin allows for water to easily drain through. Beneath the gravel mix, we will install a suitable draining system that filters away any excess liquid. Resin Bound is an ideal choice for surfacing requirements where ease of maintenance and a more decorative or visually impacting style of finish is required.

Resin Bonded

With Resin Bonded gravel, the layer of resin is spread across the surface area, to begin with and then the aggregate or gravel is scattered across the top. The majority of the aggregate will then stick to the resin below with the top level of gravel remaining loose. This causes an overall loose gravel effect. We will ensure we rake the gravel to remove any excessive stones. As the resin and aggregate remain separate it means the surface is non-porous however, the texture of the gravel provides an attractive and authentic finish to any driveway or pathway.
